Since 2022, the city has been supporting housing vulnerable groups living in semi-basements, rooftop rooms, and low-rise houses with a minimum residential area below 26㎡ (for two-person households) by improving housing performance such as insulation and waterproofing, as well as interior environment repairs like wallpapering and flooring. In connection with corporate social responsibility activities, 29 organizations have improved the housing environment of a total of 77 households.
The city is responsible for administrative support such as selecting beneficiary households, while private companies and organizations have sponsored materials and construction costs needed for environmental improvements and carried out customized home repairs. Additionally, experts have donated their talents to provide organizing and storage education, and cooperation with community social welfare councils and others has supported volunteer activities for tidying up belongings.
At the event, representatives from private companies and non-profit organizations that participated in the project over the past two years attended. These included Seoul Guarantee Insurance (sponsoring 150 million KRW for construction costs), the Seoul Chapter of the Korea Housing Builders Association (home repairs for 11 households), and Hyundai Livart (kitchen and bathroom construction, furniture sponsorship). Also present were Korea Habitat, which has overseen housing environment improvement construction since the 2022 pilot project; the Seoul Social Welfare Council, newly participating this year; the Korea Storage and Organization Association, which donated organizing and storage education talents; and officials from Namgajwa 1-dong Community Service Center, which supported temporary housing costs and built-in closets.
During the performance sharing meeting, project partners who conducted customized home repairs by visiting beneficiary households presented their achievements and shared the impressions of the recipients. Participants who contributed to the successful project implementation were awarded commendations from the Mayor of Seoul.
Yoo Chang-su, Deputy Mayor for Administration of Seoul, said, “We express our gratitude to the Companion Partners who supported vulnerable groups to live in healthy and safe housing environments,” and added, “Since continuous private sector participation is the driving force behind the project’s progress, we ask for the ongoing interest and support of the Companion Partners so that the project can continue to sail smoothly.”
