University Students Also Condemn Martial Law... Joint Rally of Over 20 Universities on the 7th

"Demanding Accountability from President Yoon and Related Parties"

On the 3rd, criticism from university campuses condemning the emergency martial law situation has been spreading day by day.


On the 6th, the 'Joint Student Council Forum,' consisting of student councils from nine universities including Yonsei University, Sogang University, Korea University, and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), held a press conference at Sinchon Star Plaza in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, urging President Yoon Seok-yeol to take responsibility for the current martial law situation.

Ham Hyeong-jin, president of the Yonsei University Student Council, stated, "This emergency martial law is an unconstitutional outrage and an unacceptable measure," adding, "It is defined as a serious betrayal of democracy." He further said, "As the future generation, we will demand responsibility and punishment from President Yoon and those involved."


Park Seo-rim, president of the Ewha Womans University Student Council, emphasized, "In history, it was university students who triumphed over the oppression of citizens, the destruction of democracy, and the denial of students," adding, "The ones who will also win against the declaration of martial law are the university students and citizens here."


On the same day, 419 professors and researchers from Hanyang University issued a political statement urging the National Assembly to agree to impeach President Yoon. They also emphasized that the prosecution and police must immediately arrest and investigate President Yoon.


Additionally, members from Ewha Womans University, Soongsil University, Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul National University of Education, Seoul Women’s University, and Kyonggi University also issued political statements, and Korea University students passed the 'Resolution of Korea University Students on the Anti-Democratic Incident Led by Martial Law Instigators' at a student general assembly.


On the 7th, university students are scheduled to take to the streets directly. At the Open Songhyeon Green Plaza in Jongno-gu, Seoul, a 'University Student Political Rally' will be held, with participation from students of about 20 universities including Korea University and Ewha Womans University.
