Yangju City "Will Promote the Comprehensive Funeral Facility Construction Project Without Setbacks"

Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 6th that it will proceed with the project without any setbacks despite the conflicting results of the 'Consent to Sign a Joint Investment Agreement among Six Cities for the Comprehensive Funeral Facility Construction Project' and the 'Ordinance on the Establishment and Operation of a Special Account for the Yangju City Joint Comprehensive Funeral Facility Construction Project,' which were respectively approved and rejected at the Yangju City Council plenary session held on the 2nd.

Yangju City stated that the joint investment agreement among the six cities and the rejected special account establishment ordinance are interlocking matters like gears, and that the project contributions from the six cities specified in the agreement will be managed and operated through the special account. The joint investment agreement has already been approved by the councils of five cities (Yangju City, Uijeongbu City, Guri City, Pocheon City, Dongducheon City), excluding Namyangju City, which is scheduled to process it on the 16th.

Regarding concerns raised by citizens about the decline in real estate prices due to the cremation facility, the city dismissed these worries. It confirmed that apartments such as Gwanggyo The Forest, located 250 meters from Suwon City's Yeonhwajang; Seocho Foresta Complex 6, located 1 km in a straight line from Seoul Memorial Park (Seocho); Samsong Unam Firstville, located 600 meters in a straight line from Seoul Municipal Seunghwawon (Goyang City); and Donghae I-Park, located 2 km in a straight line from the Donghae Samcheok Joint Crematorium, show price trends unrelated to the cremation facilities.

A Yangju City official stated, “Since the establishment of a special account is necessary for the construction project, we will make efforts to pass the ordinance through sufficient consultation with the council.”
