Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Ju Gwang-deok) announced on the 6th that it operated the ‘Yeoyudang Gongnyeom Exploration’ program on the 5th for teachers and education experts affiliated with Gyeonggi Province to learn about Jeong Yak-yong’s views on public office and his practical actions.

This program was planned as part of the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong brand project to reflect on the calling of modern public officials through Jeong Yak-yong’s ‘Gongnyeom’ ideology.
The program, themed around ‘Gongnyeom,’ was conducted in the form of exploring Namyangju’s historical and cultural heritage sites while following the footsteps of Jeong Yak-yong.
The main contents of the program included △special historical commentary centered on Jeong Yak-yong’s ideology △archery experience at Cheonma Gukgungjang △a ‘Gongnyeom’ lecture held at Jeong Yak-yong historic sites △Yeoyudang craft experience, among various activities.
Participants deeply understood Jeong Yak-yong’s views on public office and practical philosophy through history and hands-on experiences, reflecting on Namyangju’s identity.
One education expert among the participants said, “It was very beneficial as it allowed us to reinterpret Jeong Yak-yong’s philosophy in a modern context beyond a simple historic site tour and to think in connection with our duties.”
A Namyangju city official stated, “We hope the Yeoyudang Gongnyeom Exploration program provided a special opportunity to directly experience Dasan Jeong Yak-yong’s philosophy and legacy. We will further expand Jeong Yak-yong-related content so that not only school staff but also the general public can easily access it.”
Namyangju City plans to develop various programs and widely promote Jeong Yak-yong’s spirit so that the Dasan Jeong Yak-yong brand can be established as a brand created together by citizens and public officials.
