City Awards Commendations to AI Industry Development Contributors

A meaningful event was held to share the achievements of the AI industry in the Gwangju region over the past year and to discuss development strategies.
On the 6th, Gwangju City held the "4th AI Professionals Day" event at the Gwangju Technopark Grand Banquet Hall. Organized by the Artificial Intelligence Industry-Academia-Research Association, the event was attended by about 150 people, including Deputy Mayor Ko Gwang-wan, Gwangju City Council member Park Pil-soon, Kim Jong-min, president of the Artificial Intelligence Industry-Academia-Research Association, and industry stakeholders related to artificial intelligence.
The Artificial Intelligence Industry-Academia-Research Association is a non-profit corporation involving 132 AI technology companies, institutions, and organizations such as SOS Lab Co., Ltd., Chosun University College of IT Convergence, and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.
The city awarded the Minister of SMEs and Startups Commendation to Jeong Ji-seong, CEO of SOS Lab Co., Ltd., and Byun Deok-su, CEO of InnoSimulation Co., Ltd., for their contributions to the development of the AI industry. Additionally, the Mayor of Gwangju Commendation was presented to 25 individuals, including Lim Hyung-gyu, manager at SOS Lab Co., Ltd., Professor Bae Jeong-hwan of Chonnam National University, and researcher Lee Hyun-ho of the Research Institute for Regional Innovation.
Prior to the commendations, a technology exchange meeting was held, starting with a presentation on technology trends by KT AI Research Center. More than 20 experts from Huawei, Naver Cloud, Alps, and others participated to share the latest technologies, including trends in the AI home appliance industry.
Deputy Mayor Ko Gwang-wan emphasized, "The successful completion of the first phase of the AI cluster project and the final coordination of the second phase of the AX Demonstration Valley project, which will begin next year, are nearing completion. The AI industry is a core strategic business that will lead the future of Gwangju, and you are the core and future of Gwangju. I ask you to continue playing a major role as agents of innovation so that Gwangju can become the Silicon Valley of Korea, and the city of Gwangju will not spare any support."
