Chun An City Council Member from People Power Party: "Democratic Party Lawmakers Who Went to National Assembly During Session Have No Right to Worry About the Country"

People Power Party (PPP) council members of Cheonan City Council in South Chungcheong Province criticized Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) council members for visiting the National Assembly during the regular session to demand the resignation of President Yoon Sukyeol, who declared martial law, saying, "They are not qualified to worry about the country."

On the 6th, PPP council members held a press conference at the Cheonan City Hall briefing room and pointed out, "On the 4th, DPK council members went to the National Assembly for an outdoor rally of their party despite the ongoing session. As a result, scheduled administrative questions and five-minute speeches were postponed."

They continued, "During the administrative questioning held that day, council member Lee Byungha incited division by bringing up the president's martial law remarks, which were unrelated to city administration. It is highly inappropriate and regrettable for council members representing Cheonan citizens to participate in collective actions related to their political party."

They added, "For city council members, legislative activities must come first, and we must fulfill our duties with greater stability in our positions. As this is a crucial time to deliberate next year's budget directly affecting the lives of Cheonan citizens, we urge you to focus on people's livelihoods."

Jang Hyuk, a council member (PPP, District Ra), emphasized, "The president's declaration of martial law failed to gain public sympathy, which requires persuasion and understanding. However, the martial law was lifted swiftly, the procedures were followed properly, and there were no legal violations." PPP council members clarified that this was Jang's personal opinion, not the party's official stance.

At the previous day's press conference held by DPK council members of Cheonan City Council calling for President Yoon's resignation, Vice Chair Ryu Jeguk (DPK, District Ga) stated, "From now on, we will pursue party-related activities only to the extent that they do not interfere with the council's schedule, in order to fulfill the duties entrusted to us by the citizens."
