Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyung-deok) announced on the 6th that on the 5th, it conducted a joint public-private crackdown in the second half of the year targeting the prostitution hotspot known as ‘Saengyeon 7-ri,’ together with the Dongducheon Police Station, Dongducheon Fire Station, and Dongducheon Sexual Violence Counseling Center.

On that day, efforts were made to encourage voluntary closure of the prostitution hotspot, provide support for self-reliance, and inform about protection measures. The Dongducheon Sexual Violence Counseling Center explained prevention of prostitution and support measures for victims, promoting exit from prostitution.
Additionally, the Dongducheon Police Station worked to apprehend those arranging and purchasing prostitution services, while the Dongducheon Fire Station conducted fire safety inspections, including checking the operation of fire extinguishers and standalone smoke detectors within the establishments.
According to the inspection results, minor violations were immediately corrected on site, and serious violations will be dealt with according to relevant laws and regulations.
The city purchased and demolished three prostitution establishments this year to close the hotspot. Furthermore, continuous joint crackdowns are being carried out, along with patrols of the prostitution hotspot centered on the crime prevention mobile patrol unit.
Mayor Park Hyung-deok of Dongducheon City stated, “To prevent the balloon effect caused by the closure of prostitution hotspots in Paju City this year, we encouraged fact-finding and voluntary closures,” adding, “We will continue to strive to create a pleasant living environment for Dongducheon citizens next year as well.”
