Kang Ki-jung, Mayor of Gwangju, presided over a meeting of public institution heads on the morning of the 5th regarding the emergency situation including President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law, urging, "Please do your best in your respective positions to protect the stability of citizens' daily lives."
Mayor Kang stated, "The fundamental duty of public officials is to protect the lives of citizens. The night of martial law has passed and democracy has been preserved, but since the upcoming process is expected to be truly long and difficult, I ask public institutions to respond wisely," emphasizing again, "The most important thing is the stability of citizens' lives."
At the meeting, heads of public institutions reviewed their respective responsibilities and agreed to refrain from external schedules unrelated to work, ensuring thorough measures to stabilize citizens' lives.
Meanwhile, Mayor Kang added at the meeting, "Please improve the points raised in the Gwangju City Council's administrative audit where improvements are needed, and reflect them in policies where applicable," and "Please pay special attention to follow-up measures as well."
