Teen runaways who stole groceries and cash from supermarkets and convenience stores to fund their travels have been apprehended by the police.
The Boryeong Police Station in Chungnam Province announced on the 5th that they had arrested three individuals, including a 15-year-old identified as A, on charges of special theft for stealing groceries and cash worth approximately 494,000 won to cover travel expenses.
According to the police, on November 20, A and the others are accused of stealing groceries such as pork belly worth about 44,000 won from a supermarket and convenience store in Sinheuk-dong, Boryeong, and also stealing an arcade machine and cash worth about 450,000 won from the convenience store.
They are also suspected of attempting to steal a motorcycle parked in front of a restaurant but failing in the attempt.
Police investigations revealed that these crimes were committed to secure travel funds.
The police stated that, after ten days of investigation through CCTV analysis and information sharing in the area, they apprehended A and the others on November 29 and are currently investigating additional offenses.
