Upgraded to Recognize Speech Better Considering Disabled People's Response Time... Strengthening Welfare Services
"Parents cannot always pay attention... It’s great that the child doesn’t get bored since spending time at home with Kati."
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is expanding support for home care using AI robots for people with developmental disabilities, providing customized welfare services.
To address the difficulties in education and care for people with developmental disabilities, the district planned a care robot incorporating AI into care services, and since March this year, has been using the AI robot "Kati" to assist education at the Lifelong Education Center for people with developmental disabilities.
The AI robot using "Kati" is designed to focus on enhancing communication skills through functions such as ▲basic daily conversation ▲singing features that assist various educational roles ▲greeting with a bow.
Since last October, AI robots have been provided to the homes of people with developmental disabilities attending the Lifelong Education Center. Through this, specialized education and care services for people with developmental disabilities are being offered even at home.
In particular, the robot’s content and functions were recently upgraded. Actively reflecting feedback from teachers and people with disabilities, technologies were added to better recognize pronunciation considering the actual response time of people with developmental disabilities during education, enabling repetitive learning of social interactions.
This has reduced the burden on parents of people with disabilities and greatly helped education by guiding people with developmental disabilities to understand others’ emotions and respond appropriately to situations.
Parents of people with developmental disabilities using the AI robot shared very positive feedback, saying, "My child finds 'Kati' incredibly cute. They keep it by their side all day and live together," and "I can feel the joy of having someone to talk to at home."
Additionally, the district plans to analyze the performance of the care AI robot, incorporate various feedback, and improve service quality. It also intends to continuously update the robot’s functions and expand the education and care system for people with developmental disabilities.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "I hope the customized AI care robot will reduce the burden on caregivers in daily life and ultimately help improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and their families. We will continue to pay close attention and do our best to enhance the quality of life for socially vulnerable groups living in welfare blind spots."
