The foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine antibody positive rate for cattle, pigs, and other animals in Gyeonggi Province has been found to exceed 99%.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory announced on the 5th that recent monitoring tests after FMD vaccination showed an antibody positive rate of 99.1% among cattle, goats, and other cloven-hoofed livestock farms in the province.
Earlier, Gyeonggi Province conducted vaccinations on 450,000 cloven-hoofed animals from October 1 to 31 to prevent the introduction of FMD.

This antibody positive rate is based on antibody tests conducted on 2,013 animals from 198 cloven-hoofed livestock farms in the province after the mass vaccination. This rate is 1 percentage point higher than the 98.1% antibody positive rate in the first half of this year and 0.7 percentage points higher than the 98.4% rate in 2023. By species, the vaccine antibody positive rate was 99.5% for cattle and 91.5% for goats.
Shin Byung-ho, director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory, stated, "The high vaccine antibody positive rate has been achieved thanks to the proactive vaccination efforts of livestock farmers in the province," and urged, "We ask farms to actively participate in thorough preventive vaccinations and biosecurity measures to prevent the introduction of FMD into the province."
