Creation of 32m-scale Waterfront Media Art Exhibition Space 'Lake Bridge Gallery' by April Next Year
Secured 500 Million KRW in Funding, Kickoff Meeting Held on the 4th... Unified Vision for 'Diverse Interactive Content'
In April next year, a large-scale media art gallery with a modern sensibility, ‘Lake Bridge Gallery (Hosugyo Gallery)’, will be established at Seokchon Lake in Songpa.
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is cultivating Seokchon Lake, the only lake in Seoul and a tourist attraction, into a center of culture and arts. As part of these efforts, the district plans to color the lake with vivid media art that delivers cultural and artistic impressions around the time the cherry blossoms bloom next year.
The gallery will be located in the underpass connecting the Jamsil Hosugyo Bridge. On the walls along the walking path, the south side will feature immersive media art exhibitions, while the north side will be designated as a special exhibition space for artists. The immersive videos displayed on a grand 32-meter screen are expected to offer passersby an unexpected artistic experience.
At the kickoff briefing held on the 4th, a preview of the Hosugyo Gallery was revealed. In particular, advanced technologies were actively introduced to expand the possibilities of the artworks and add fun. From fantastic projection mapping to audience-responsive interactive art and real-time public data, various technologies were integrated to realize creative and distinctive works in the exhibition space.
Based on this technological infrastructure, the district plans to focus on producing interactive content completed through audience participation. At the briefing, various ideas were proposed, including media art responding to motion sensors, graphic videos reflecting real-time data changes, and a virtual gallery showcasing diverse works.
Attendees at the briefing agreed on the need to secure content diversity and urged filling the gallery with rich video materials. Early next year, the district plans to hold another interim briefing to review the detailed progress of the project.
In addition, various parts of Seokchon Lake are being adorned with beautiful visual arts. Following ‘The Gallery Hosu’, which opened last November and is gaining popularity, the ‘Hosugyo Gallery’ and the advanced art sculpture ‘Media Forest’ will make their debut in April next year. Visitors will be able to enjoy cultural arts while appreciating the lake scenery along the walking path.
Prior to the project launch, in May, the district named the underpass of Seokchon Lake Bridge as ‘Hosugyo Gallery’ and held a special exhibition of a public art project by a world-renowned artist. Numerous walkers encountered art in their daily lives and enjoyed cultural activities.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Seokchon Lake is being reborn as a sophisticated cultural and artistic space housing a splendid art museum, media art gallery, and advanced sculptures,” adding, “We will fill the newly created canvas with easy and enjoyable works to offer residents a more diverse cultural and artistic experience.”
