Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province will actively address the parking shortage near the commercial area of Seongyeon-myeon Techno Valley by leasing one privately owned parking tower free of charge and providing it as a temporary public parking lot for citizens starting next year.

The central commercial area of Seongyeon-myeon Techno Valley houses about 150 businesses, and the parking shortage has worsened since two nearby private parking towers have been out of operation for business reasons since last April.

Additionally, with construction work starting in August on the site of a nearby temporary public parking lot, the city has been seeking various solutions to alleviate the parking shortage.

The city reviewed several options, including on-street parking, river decking, utilizing Saessak Park, and using school parking lots, and has been in ongoing discussions with the building owners to lease the private parking towers that have been out of use due to business reasons.

The city proposed offering property tax reductions in accordance with relevant laws to the owners of the private parking towers, and after extensive negotiations, secured a free lease for one of the towers to improve parking convenience for citizens.

The city is making preparations to make the parking tower available as early as January next year and plans to continue reviewing long-term and permanent solutions to address the ongoing parking shortage.

Mayor Lee Wan-seop stated, "With a population of 180,000 and 110,000 vehicles in our city, many areas are suffering from parking shortages, and securing parking lots is directly related to improving citizens' quality of life. We will do our utmost to secure parking facilities to enhance the quality of life for our citizens."
