Seoul Metro and Labor Union Reach Agreement at 7th Main Negotiation on 4th... Line 9 to Operate Normally from 6th
Seoul Metro Corporation announced on the 4th at around 5 PM that it has reached a labor-management agreement with the Seoul Metro Line 9 Branch of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union (KPTU).
As a result, the Seoul Metro Line 9 Branch will not participate in the Seoul subway general strike scheduled for the 6th.
The main issues were ▲wage increases ▲staff augmentation. Following the withdrawal of the warning strike on the 28th of last month, the union and management held several rounds of negotiations and narrowed their differences on the key agenda items of wage increases and staffing, ultimately reaching an agreement.
Under this agreement, wages will be increased within the policy increase rate, which is up to 2.5% of total labor costs, and staffing will be increased in 2025 through consultations with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Son Byeong-hee, Head of Line 9 Operations, said, “We did our best in negotiations to prevent the strike from materializing and causing inconvenience to citizens,” adding, “We will actively consult with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to increase staffing.”
Kim Seong-min, Head of the Line 9 Branch, said, “Since the agreement was reached based on trust between labor and management, we will maintain a healthy labor-management relationship.”
Although the agreement has been tentatively signed, a ratification vote is still pending, and the voting date has not yet been determined.
