Bar Association Urges Constitutional Review of Yoon Gyeheon
Files Constitutional Complaint
The Korean Association of Legal Professionals (Hanbeophyup) has filed a constitutional complaint with the Constitutional Court, stating that there is a risk of repeated declarations of martial law and that it is necessary to determine its unconstitutionality. Hanbeophyup is an organization of young lawyers who have graduated from law schools and passed the bar exam.
On the 4th, Hanbeophyup filed a constitutional complaint with the Constitutional Court, claiming that "the president's declaration of martial law and the exercise of public authority accompanying it violate the Constitution and infringe on the basic rights of the people." Hanbeophyup mentioned, "On the 3rd, the president declared martial law, and the exercise of public authority accompanying this included the martial law commander's proclamation, control of access to the National Assembly, armed forces entering the National Assembly, and the movement of armored vehicles and helicopters."
They added, "There is a risk that the declaration of martial law will be repeated in the future," and emphasized, "Clarifying whether the declaration of martial law is unconstitutional is of constitutional importance, so the Constitutional Court needs to determine the unconstitutionality of the declaration of martial law."
