The main tower is shaped like two pillars soaring into the sky, representing that the Republic of Korea has developed through the noble sacrifices of the Vietnam War veterans. The construction of the memorial tower began with gathering opinions from veterans organizations in August 2022, followed by communication with local residents, holding a safety prayer ceremony in February this year, starting construction on March 4, and culminating in the completion ceremony on this day.
At the completion ceremony, Governor Seo Tae-won congratulated the completion of the memorial tower, saying, “I deeply thank the construction company that completed the work without any safety accidents, the residents of Sangsaek-ri who cooperated, and the members of the Gapyeong-gun Vietnam Veterans Association who showed great interest.”
Kim Cheong-jo, head of the Gapyeong-gun branch of the Republic of Korea Vietnam War Veterans Association, said, “The completion of the memorial tower honoring the patriotic spirit of the veterans is very meaningful,” and expressed gratitude to Gapyeong-gun for their efforts in building the memorial tower.
The Gapyeong-gun Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Tower is expected to become a space honoring the honor and spirit of sacrifice of the veterans. In particular, it is anticipated to be used as a symbolic place where generations who did not experience the war can cultivate a proper sense of history and patriotism.
