Jinju City Holds Invitation Meeting for Namgangcho Girls' Soccer Team Achieving 'Grand Slam'

First Female Elementary Soccer Player to Achieve a 'Grand Slam'

On the 3rd, Jinju City in Gyeongnam held a meeting with the Jinju Namgang Elementary School girls' soccer team, which swept national competitions this year, in the situation room on the 5th floor of City Hall.

This meeting was organized to celebrate Namgang Elementary School soccer team’s achievement of the first-ever ‘Grand Slam’ in the history of Korean women’s soccer, and to express gratitude and encouragement to the coaches and players.

The meeting was attended by Namgang Elementary Principal Lee Oksuk, Namgang soccer team coach Chae Junwoo, coach Jeong Chakyung, and the players, along with Kim Taekse, president of the Jinju City Sports Council. The city presented plaques of appreciation and merit to the Namgang soccer team, and the Jinju City Sports Council delivered encouragement funds.

Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, “I sincerely congratulate the coach, the assistant coach, and the players for achieving the ‘Grand Slam’ through their relentless effort and passion,” adding, “The city will also spare no support in the sports sector to advance as a prestigious sports city.”

Meanwhile, Kim Taekse, president of the Jinju City Sports Council, said, “The achievement of the ‘Grand Slam’ by the Namgang Elementary School girls’ soccer team is a remarkable feat that will be remembered in the history of Jinju sports,” and “The Jinju City Sports Council will also provide generous support so that the players can pursue even greater dreams.”

Meanwhile, the Namgang Elementary girls’ soccer team swept all five national competitions this year: the Spring Women’s Soccer Tournament, the Queen’s Cup National Women’s Soccer Tournament, the National Youth Soccer Tournament, the National Women’s Soccer Championship, and the Autumn Korea Women’s Soccer Federation Tournament, achieving the first-ever Grand Slam for a girls’ elementary soccer team. The outstanding performance shown by the players in the finals and the passion and unity displayed in every match deeply moved many people.
