Naver announced on the 4th that it held the '2024 Nully Webinar' and shared the importance of inclusive artificial intelligence (AI) technology and cases of improved accessibility.
The 2024 Nully Webinar was held under the theme "People-Centered Digital Inclusion through AI Accessibility." Marking its 12th edition this year, the webinar was conducted under the slogan "Accessibility is a Human Right." Industry experts from Naver, as well as Google, Envisions, N Tech Service, Ewha Womans University, and the Korea Information Society Development Institute shared cases of improving digital service accessibility for marginalized groups through AI technology, along with technological and institutional efforts to support this.
Kim Young-ho, leader of Naver Cloud AI Lab, who participated as a speaker in this webinar, emphasized the importance of technology design that comprehensively considers the characteristics of users who have difficulty accessing digital information, such as children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. He introduced research results on the 'AACessTalk' program, which helps autistic children and their parents who have communication difficulties by providing context-appropriate conversational guides based on large language models (LLM).
Practical efforts by the IT industry, academia, and the international community to improve user experience through system construction for accessibility enhancement and actual application of AI technology in services were also introduced.
Lee Seon-ju, a web accessibility specialist at N Tech Service, explained that Naver’s practitioners use solutions that allow them to quickly diagnose accessibility issues and seek solutions during the program development process.
Additionally, Ewha Womans University presented research results that enhanced immersion by applying voice AI technology to webtoons, and Google showcased cases where technology was applied to enable reading PDFs and web pages in the Chrome browser.
Meanwhile, Naver is playing a leading role in enabling everyone to conveniently utilize digital information by operating an accessibility customer center with AI-based smart bots and providing accessibility guides and service-specific guides through the 'Naver Accessibility' page.
