Gyeonggi Province is conducting a special audit on the post-management status of the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) project until the 20th of this month.
The Gyeonggi Province Audit Committee explained the background for selecting the CPTED project as the subject of the special audit, stating that after analyzing social data to derive keywords of high interest to residents, keywords such as women, crime prevention, and female crime were identified, along with highly related terms like city and environmental design.
The CPTED project aims to prevent crime and enhance residents' convenience by improving the urban environment and design in crime-vulnerable areas.

The main projects include ▲installation of see-through fences ▲installation of emergency bells and security CCTV in alleys ▲building painting ▲improvement of fences and walkways. Since 2014, Gyeonggi Province has selected 2 to 5 areas annually among the 31 cities and counties within the province to implement this project.
This special audit targets eight locations in four cities?Suwon, Paju, Gwangju, and Guri?selected based on crime rates and the number of projects among areas where more than one year has passed since completion. Inspection items include post-construction management status, attachment and operation of safety facilities, and actual use of spaces by residents.
Ansangseop, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Audit Committee, said, "This special audit is the first case of deriving audit topics using the latest information technologies such as social media analysis, rather than the traditional method of discovering audit points through reports or document verification. Going forward, we will scientifically analyze residents' demands using big data and artificial intelligence (AI) and reflect them in audits."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province plans to disclose the audit results to residents and share them with city and county internal audit organizations to encourage autonomous improvements.
