"Shocking" Reactions to SNS Post Sharing Korean Situation
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, reacted with "shocking" to the passage of the South Korean National Assembly's resolution on the declaration and lifting of martial law.
On the 4th, Musk shared a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account stating that the South Korean National Assembly unanimously passed the resolution to lift martial law with all 190 members present, writing "Wow." In response to another post asking what was happening in Korea, he replied, "Yes, this is truly shocking."
Earlier, around 10:30 p.m. on the 3rd, President Yoon Suk-yeol announced an emergency national address declaring, "We will eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the free constitutional order by declaring martial law." In response, the 190 members of the National Assembly gathered in the plenary session voted in favor of lifting martial law around 1 a.m. on the 5th. This was about 150 minutes after President Yoon held an emergency press conference the previous night to declare martial law. According to Article 77 of the Constitution, when the National Assembly requests the lifting of martial law with the approval of the majority of its members (150 members), the president must lift it.
When martial law is declared, freedoms such as the warrant system, freedom of the press, publication, assembly, and association may be restricted according to relevant laws. Special measures regarding the authority of the government or courts may also be implemented.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, posted on his social networking service (SNS) that the martial law situation in Korea is "surprising." X (formerly Twitter)
