Celebratory Events Featuring Actress Oh Yoon-ah's Lecture, Volunteer Activity Photo Exhibition, and Popera Performances
Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the "2024 Mapo-gu Volunteer Day Ceremony" on December 5th at Majung Hall on the 6th floor of Mapo Central Library to encourage and communicate with volunteers who have devoted themselves to volunteer activities throughout the year in various parts of the region.
About 400 volunteers and local demand-side officials are expected to attend this event, where various programs reflecting on the value of volunteering will be held.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a photo exhibition showcasing the various volunteer activities carried out by volunteers over the past year. Then, starting at 2 p.m., there will be a volunteer encouragement lecture titled "Love is the Answer" by actress Oh Yoon-ah, who has long led volunteer activities, followed by popera and violin performances to express gratitude and encouragement to the volunteers.
The main ceremony will begin at 3:30 p.m., during which attendees will reflect on the past year’s volunteer activities through a volunteer activity video, followed by an awards ceremony for 198 outstanding volunteers.
In particular, special thanks and encouragement will be given to eight "Volunteer Kings" who dedicated more than 1,000 hours annually and 149 volunteers who contributed between 300 and 500 hours annually.
Mapo-gu has also carried out various projects this year to spread a sustainable volunteer culture.
At the Resident Participation Filial Piety Meal program, 4,624 volunteers contributed a total of 9,248 hours through meal serving assistance and companionship volunteering.
Additionally, each neighborhood volunteer camp conducted community-centered customized volunteer activities such as the 'Home-cooked Meal Project' for the underprivileged, 'Volunteering Beside Me' to discover and care for isolated neighbors, and the 'Our Village Alley Travel Project' utilizing local culture.
Moreover, original specialized programs such as the ‘A Handful of Soil Pumasi Volunteer Group,’ which connects farms lacking labor with volunteers and donates crops to the Filial Piety Meal program, and 'Hello, Rainwater Drain' to prevent flood damage during the rainy season, were also operated, receiving great responses.
Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “I deeply appreciate the dedication and hard work of volunteers who have added warmth to our community,” and added, “We will continue to create a warm and livable happy city, Mapo-gu, through the activation of volunteer activities.”
