A Korea Exchange official said, "The opening of the stock market is still undecided," adding, "The decision on whether to open the stock market will be finalized after an emergency meeting."

Earlier that day, at 10:20 p.m., President Yoon declared martial law at the Yongsan Presidential Office. He stated, "The Democratic Party's legislative dictatorship does not hesitate even to impeach the budget," and added, "To protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korean communist forces and to eradicate the shameless pro-North anti-state forces who plunder the freedom and happiness of our people in one fell swoop, and to uphold the free constitutional order, I hereby declare martial law."

Following President Yoon's declaration of martial law, as of 11:54 p.m., the KOSPI 200 night futures were trading at 318.50, plunging 3.78%. Bitcoin prices also fell nearly 5% compared to the previous day amid concerns over the martial law declaration. The Korean stock market on the 4th is highly likely to plunge upon opening.

As of 11:54 p.m., the won-dollar exchange rate exceeded 1,430 won. This is the lowest value of the won since November 2022.
