On this day, Mayor Kim Dong-geun met sequentially with Park Ji-hye (Uijeongbu Gap) and Lee Jae-gang (Uijeongbu Eul), local district members of the National Assembly, and requested their active support to ensure the smooth progress of Uijeongbu City's key projects, the ‘Uijeongbu Station Area Development Project’ and the ‘Designation of Uijeongbu City as an Economic Free Zone.’
At the meeting, Mayor Kim emphasized that the Uijeongbu Station Area Development Project will be an important turning point to strengthen urban competitiveness and to propel Uijeongbu City as a future transportation and economic hub, requesting the interest and cooperation of the local district lawmakers.
He also explained the promotion of the designation of an economic free zone utilizing available sites such as returned military land and requested active support. Through the designation of the economic free zone, the city plans to overcome the limitations of urban development caused by overlapping regulations under the Capital Region Readjustment Planning Act and to foster new growth industries such as information technology (IT) and life sciences (bio) in northern Gyeonggi Province, thereby discovering future growth engines for Uijeongbu City.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun has continuously communicated about the city’s major projects and policies by visiting the National Assembly and various government ministries to explain the necessity and justification for promoting pending projects, as well as holding policy consultations with various political parties.
Mayor Kim said, “We will closely communicate with the National Assembly to ensure that various policies and core projects necessary for citizens can be smoothly implemented,” adding, “We will do our best to improve the quality of life of citizens by resolving local issues.”
