Gwangjin-gu Wins Seoul Food Hygiene Comprehensive Evaluation Top Award for 2 Consecutive Years

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has been selected as the best institution for two consecutive years in the '2024 Comprehensive Evaluation of Food Hygiene' hosted by Seoul City.

This evaluation was conducted to identify outstanding autonomous districts that have made policy efforts to improve food hygiene standards. A quantitative and qualitative assessment was carried out on 21 indicators across 7 areas targeting 25 autonomous districts in Seoul.

Gwangjin-gu received high scores across all 7 areas. ▲ Food safety management infrastructure ▲ Guidance and inspection ▲ Sample collection, testing, and complaint handling ▲ Food poisoning response and business management ▲ Dietary improvement ▲ Civic participation ▲ Citizen administrative services all showed balanced achievements, leading to excellent results.

In particular, reflecting the latest food consumption trends was effective. In line with the growing trend of non-face-to-face orders, hygiene inspections of delivery-only restaurants were strengthened, and more attention was paid to radiation testing of seafood distributed online. Along with this, a sugar reduction project was implemented to meet consumer interest in healthy eating habits.

With this award, Gwangjin-gu secured an incentive of 30 million KRW. The prize money will be used as a budget for food hygiene management and food culture improvement projects next year.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Food safety is a very important issue in our daily lives, so we are actively engaged in hygiene management,” and added, “We will continue to make efforts to improve food hygiene standards to create a dining environment where everyone can use with confidence.”
