Jeonnam-style Youth Village Project Cultivates 'Sonamu Sup'
A 'Nungnunggil Healing Forest' has been created in Hwangsan-myeon, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, as part of the Jeonnam-style Youth Village project.
According to the county on the 3rd, the Nungnunggil Healing Forest is a newly cultivated pine forest behind the old Okdong Elementary School building, developed into a space where residents can leisurely walk and rest.
This project was proposed by the Nungnunggil Promotion Committee, which is leading the youth village creation, and was selected this year in the 'Creating Jeonnam in the Forest' contest, resulting in a forest with participation from residents and organizations. The Nungnunggil Healing Forest is characterized by a long stretch of pine groves and has been loved as a walking space by nearby village residents.
Previously, it was a school forest behind the closed school building, but the old outdoor stage and wall climbing area were removed, and the density of the forest overgrown with underbrush was thinned to showcase the beautiful scenery of the pine trees.
The gentle slope makes it easy to walk, ideal for a light stroll, and a wide lawn has been maintained for relaxing rest. At the lower part of the pine forest, Liriope muscari has been planted to cultivate a purple forest garden in summer.
The county also plans to introduce the concept of a forest art gallery, considering artwork exhibitions and creative use of outdoor spaces. The Okgongye Village in Hwangsan-myeon is developing into a Haenam-style youth hub village through the Jeonnam-style Youth Village project and the Nungnunggil Youth and Multicultural Complex Cultural Space project.
A county official said, “We will do our best to maintain and manage the youth village healing forest so that it provides rest for local residents and establishes itself as a forest tourism resource that outsiders can also visit.”
It is expected that the creation of this healing forest will generate a synergistic effect for projects related to youth village development.
