Lee Hyun-jae Mayor "Cooperating with Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education to Ensure Misa 5 Middle School Opens on Time"
Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 3rd that at the ‘10th Citizen Participation Weekly Meeting’ held on the 2nd in the main conference room of City Hall, it reported on the progress and future plans of major projects, including the announcement of the pre-briefing session for the public-private partnership bidding for the K-Star World development project, and gathered citizens’ opinions.

At the Citizen Participation Weekly Meeting, Mayor Lee Hyun-jae discussed key issues with citizens, including ▲(Corporate Attraction) the holding of the pre-briefing session for the public-private partnership bidding for the K-Star World development project ▲(2025 Major Project Plans) introduction of public facilities opening in 2025 ▲(Urban Development) progress on Hakamcheon Stream maintenance work ▲(Education) progress on the establishment of the tentatively named Misa 5 Middle School ▲(Safety) completion of the 2024 Children Protection Zone Improvement Project (Hanam-type School Zone).
First, Hanam City shared the news that on the 26th of last month, it held the ‘Pre-briefing Session for the Public-Private Partnership Bidding for the K-Star World Development Project’ at COEX in Seoul, attended by about 150 major domestic banks, securities firms, construction companies, and associations including KB Kookmin Bank, Woori Bank, Korea Investment & Securities, GS Construction, POSCO E&C, and the Small and Medium Enterprise Association.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae stated, “The K-Star World development project is a project that creates economic effects through large-scale job creation,” and added, “We ask for much encouragement and support so that Hanam City can leap forward as a global K-Culture hub city through the K-Star World development project.”
He then introduced the public facilities scheduled to open throughout Hanam City in 2025. In the original downtown area, two new badminton courts will be established: the Badminton Court at the entrance of Geomdansan Mountain (scheduled to open in January 2025) and the Changwoo Badminton Court (scheduled to open in March 2025). The Sinjang Tennis Court (scheduled for completion in June 2025) will undergo remodeling.
In the Gam-il district, the Gam-il Complex Community Center (scheduled to open in the second half of 2025), Gam-il Dog Park (scheduled to open in March 2025), and Gam-il Neighborhood Park No. 3 Water Playground (scheduled to open in June 2025) will be developed.
He also shared the news that the Hakamcheon Stream maintenance project, which includes the construction of Hakam 1 Bridge allowing direct passage from Hakam Village to Wirye New Town, has commenced with a target completion date of December next year.
Alongside this, he shared with citizens the progress on the tentatively named Misa 5 Middle School, a campaign pledge project of the 8th elected administration aimed at alleviating overcrowded classes.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae emphasized, “The establishment of Misa 5 Middle School is the result of the will and efforts of Hanam City and its citizens,” and added, “Hanam City will closely cooperate with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and spare no administrative support to ensure that Misa 5 Middle School opens on schedule.”
Finally, he announced that the 2024 Hanam-type School Zone project, aimed at achieving zero traffic accidents in children protection zones, was completed in November this year for two schools: Narul Elementary School and Pungsan Elementary School.
Additionally, citizen representatives attending the meeting proposed various opinions, including ▲increasing the floor area ratio and securing underground parking at Gam-il Museum (Choi Yoon-ho, President of the Gam-il District General Association) ▲installation of signposts for the Veterans Hall (Lee Dong-joo, President of Hanam City Veterans Association) ▲expansion of sports facilities for disabled youth in Hanam City (Choi Dae-in, President of Hanam City Elementary, Middle, and High School Parents Association).
Hanam City responded that it will review the proposals through consultations with related organizations such as LH and share future progress.
Meanwhile, the Citizen Participation Weekly Meeting is held quarterly to gather diverse citizens’ opinions beyond the usual civil servant-centered meetings. The meeting was attended by about 140 people, including citizen representatives such as Oh Jang-seop, Chairman of the Citizen Participation Innovation Committee; Yoon Tae-hyun, Head of the Policy Monitoring Group; Hyun Gyo-tae, Chairman of the Residents’ Autonomy Council; Yoo Yoo-geun, Chairman of the Neighborhood Association Council; Lee Dong-joo, President of Hanam City Veterans Association; Yoon Mi-ae, President of the Women’s Organization; and senior officials of Hanam City.
