Wireless Communication Networks to be Established at Over 2,400 Locations Next Year
Police Agency and Transportation Corporation Also to Access Signal Information
LG Uplus announced on the 3rd that it will build a wireless communication network capable of providing real-time traffic signal information in cooperation with Incheon City. This will enable stable driving and is expected to become a foundational technology that accelerates the era of autonomous driving.

The existing communication network transmitted traffic signal information collected from traffic signal controllers only to the Incheon Traffic Information Center via a single line. The newly established network by LG Uplus uses multiple lines, allowing the Police Agency's Urban Traffic Information Center and the Korea Road Traffic Authority to simultaneously receive traffic signal information.
With the new network enabling the Police Agency and the Authority to use signal information, various services that can advance the future autonomous vehicle era are expected to become possible.
For example, the Authority plans to share signal information received through traffic signal controllers with navigation companies so that drivers can check the remaining time of traffic signals in real time.
LG Uplus will also establish a new control system that allows the Incheon Traffic Information Center to remotely monitor the wireless communication status. In case of any issues, the control room can check the status and take proactive measures without driver reports. Additionally, when vehicles receive signal information in real time, stable driving becomes possible without recognizing the signals directly.
LG Uplus plans to build its wireless communication network in about 2,400 traffic signal controllers by the first quarter of next year and commercialize the service in the first half of next year after preliminary testing.
Im Jang-hyuk, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Uplus Enterprise Customer Group, stated, "Based on the experience of building the system in Incheon City, we will continue efforts to establish real-time traffic signal information provision systems in other local governments."
