Encouraging Merchants During 40-Minute Market Visit
Yoon: "Gongju Feels Like My Hometown"
"Researching How to Support Merchants"
President Yoon Suk-yeol visited Gongju Sanseong Market in Chungnam on the 2nd to encourage market merchants and local small business owners. President Yoon said, "Gongju is my father's hometown, so it is like my own hometown," adding, "Thanks to your constant support as a son of Gongju, I am working hard as well."
On the afternoon of the same day, President Yoon continued his efforts to address public livelihood by visiting Gongju Sanseong Market, according to a written briefing by Presidential Office spokesperson Jeong Hye-jeon. It has been over three years since President Yoon last visited Gongju Sanseong Market, which was during his presidential candidacy in August 2021.
President Yoon met with citizens and said, "I met you during my presidential candidacy, and now I am visiting again after three years," adding, "This morning, at the Presidential Office meeting and the public livelihood discussion, we extensively studied and discussed how to support you, the market merchants."
He continued, "Policies that you can feel directly will be implemented soon," and said, "Although the global economy is difficult, our government will gather all possible strength to ensure you do not lose morale and stay strong."
President Yoon stayed at the market for about 40 minutes that day. He visited a rice cake shop and a rubber product store to encourage the merchants.
He also stopped by the radio broadcasting booth within the market, which airs music, announcements, and disaster broadcasts, and served as a one-day radio DJ.
President Yoon greeted, "To the market merchants and citizens visiting the market, meeting you like this always makes me feel good and happy, not tired," adding, "That's why I don't want to leave when I come to the market."
He then said, "I will work hard as president," and asked, "You trust me, right?" The merchants gathered inside and outside the booth responded with "Yes."
President Yoon encouraged, "The government is making efforts, but it takes time," and said, "Please trust us, do not lose courage, and stay strong." He concluded the broadcast by sending New Year's greetings, saying, "I will always support and cheer for your success and courage."
