The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) has decided to conduct an on-site investigation into the sexual violence incident that occurred at the Air Force 17th Fighter Wing.
The NHRCK announced on the 2nd that it made this decision during the Military Human Rights Protection Committee meeting held on the 27th of last month. The exact date of the investigation has not been set.
According to Article 50-4 of the Human Rights Commission Act, if deemed necessary, the Military Human Rights Protection Committee may, through a resolution, authorize the Military Human Rights Protection Officer, committee members, or affiliated staff to visit military units and conduct investigations.
In this unit, a female second lieutenant was allegedly sexually assaulted by her direct superior, a colonel, and subsequently suffered secondary harm from other officers. The police are currently investigating the case.
