Academic Background, Physical Differences, and Wealth Should Not Be Subjects of Mockery
The KBS2TV entertainment program 'Sajangnim Gwiyeun Dangnagwi Gwi' (hereinafter 'Sadanggui') received a legal sanction of 'caution' from the Korea Communications Standards Commission.
On the 2nd, the Korea Communications Standards Commission held a full meeting at the Broadcasting Hall in Mokdong, Yangcheon-gu, and decided on a legal sanction of 'caution' for 'Sadanggui,' which faced complaints for ridiculing obesity and hair loss.
The July 2nd broadcast of 'Sadanggui' last year sparked controversy by having a marriage information company representative evaluate employees' appearances and introduce new male membership conditions, ridiculing a specific comedian and men suffering from hair loss disorders.
Expressions such as "lookalike of the northern chairman" and "the top of the head is too bare" contained content that seemed to mock specific appearances. Additionally, remarks and subtitles like "height under 167cm not allowed" and "annual income under 40 million won not allowed" were shown.
Commissioner Kim Jeong-su stated, "The part depicting men who do not meet certain conditions as inferior people is indeed ridicule." Commissioner Kang Gyeong-pil pointed out, "The expression process was inappropriate, but it was not filtered before broadcasting."
Chairperson Ryu Hee-rim also criticized, "The review regulations clearly state that education, physical differences, and wealth should not be targets of ridicule, but this promoted prejudice."
