Actor Jung Woo-sung and model Moon Ga-bi's extramarital child scandal has stirred up Korean society, and it has been confirmed that the Blue Dragon Film Awards uploaded and then deleted an edited version of Jung Woo-sung's acceptance speech.
On the 30th of last month, the Blue Dragon Film Awards posted a video on their official social media (SNS) account with the hashtags "Blue Dragon's sincerity" and "Jung Woo-sung's sincerity." The video showed Jung Woo-sung mentioning his extramarital child scandal at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards held the previous day at KBS Hall in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
At the time, Jung Woo-sung went on stage as his film Seoul's Spring won the Most Audience Award. He delivered his acceptance speech last, following the director, the production company representative, and Hwang Jung-min. First, Jung Woo-sung expressed his gratitude, saying, "I sincerely thank all the audience members who watched Seoul's Spring." He then stated, "I stand here hoping that my personal matters will not leave a stain on the film or those involved with Seoul's Spring." He continued, "I sincerely apologize for causing concern and disappointment to everyone who has given me love and expectations," and directly addressed the extramarital child scandal by saying, "I will take all criticism upon myself and bear it. As a father, I will fulfill my responsibilities to my son to the very end."
Fellow actors seated in the audience applauded and cheered for him. However, netizens responded critically with comments such as, "Why are they applauding him? What did he do well?" "This is not something to cheer about," "It's their own world, really amazing," and "What a glamorous job." Furthermore, when the Blue Dragon Film Awards posted the acceptance speech video with the hashtag "Jung Woo-sung's sincerity," netizens expressed even stronger rejection. The organizers, who had disabled the comment section, appeared to have deleted the video as the controversy did not subside.
Earlier, on the 22nd of last month, Moon Ga-bi confessed on her SNS account that she recently gave birth, saying, "As a mother of one child, I gathered the courage to live enjoying a little more ordinary happiness." Subsequently, reports revealed that Moon Ga-bi's son is Jung Woo-sung's biological child, causing a major stir over their extramarital child scandal. The British public broadcaster BBC reported on the incident, stating, "Korea demands excessively high social standards from celebrities," and added, "Jung Woo-sung's recent announcement reflects the reality of Korean society where personal choices and social expectations collide."
