The 'Bungeoppang Map' service launched by the local lifestyle platform Danggeun is gaining explosive popularity. As Bungeoppang, a representative winter street snack, has become harder to find due to the impact of high inflation, consumers are flocking to find it.
The Bungeoppang Map is a service that Danggeun introduced on the 20th of last month as a limited winter season offering. Local residents directly register the locations of Bungeoppang street vendors and share the locations with neighbors. The service has received an extremely enthusiastic response, with over 3,000 reviews registered within just ten days. Various short-form videos featuring real-time reviews and footage of Bungeoppang shops are also being widely shared.
According to Danggeun on the 2nd, since the launch of the 'Bungeoppang Map' service, searches for 'Bungeoppang' have surged 135 times compared to the second week of November before the service was introduced. The number of users searching for Bungeoppang on the Danggeun platform also increased 124 times. Danggeun explained that demand for Bungeoppang has significantly risen compared to last year.

The reason Bungeoppang has become such a 'precious guest' is due to the ongoing widespread price increases. The cost of ingredients used to make Bungeoppang has risen sharply compared to last year, causing people to stop setting up Bungeoppang street stalls. With the price of one Bungeoppang reaching 1,000 won, it has even earned the nickname 'Gold (Geum) Bungeoppang.' According to agricultural product distribution information from the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, as of the 20th of last month, the price of red beans per 40 kg rose 10% above the average price of previous years to 264,200 won. The average price this year is 272,476 won, a 44.5% increase compared to four years ago.
Meanwhile, the ranking of neighborhoods with registered Bungeoppang shops is also attracting attention. So far, the most shops have been registered in Yeonsan-dong, Yeonje-gu, Busan; Sillim-dong and Bongcheon-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul; Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon; and Uijeongbu-dong, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do, in that order.
