Mayor Park Hyeong-deok Presents Five Major Administrative Directions for Next Year in City Policy Speech
Administrative Efforts Focused on Driving Future Growth Engines Such as Expanding Soyosan Tourist Area and Creating a Pet Theme Park

Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyung-deok) has prepared a 2025 main budget totaling 608.2 billion KRW and submitted it to the city council. Compared to this year's main budget of 574.2 billion KRW, this represents an increase of 34 billion KRW (5.93%), with the general account increasing by 6.74% to 538.7 billion KRW and the special account increasing by 0.05% to 69.5 billion KRW.

The budget for next year is allocated as follows: 252.7 billion KRW for social welfare, 78 billion KRW for the environment, 50.5 billion KRW for transportation and logistics, 34.2 billion KRW for national land and regional development, 20.4 billion KRW for culture and tourism, 17.1 billion KRW for agriculture and forestry, 14.8 billion KRW for education, and 12.5 billion KRW for health.


On the 2nd, Mayor Park Hyung-deok delivered a policy speech at the 2nd regular session of the 334th Dongducheon City Council, stating, “Amid rapidly changing domestic and international conditions and prolonged economic downturn, difficult local financial conditions continue. In response, the city will proactively seek and utilize public contest projects and available resources, and through efficient financial management based on solid fiscal soundness, we will devote all efforts to enhancing citizen welfare and investing in future growth engines.”


He also mentioned key projects such as expanding the Soyosan tourist area, creating a pet theme park, constructing integrated public rental housing, completing the extension of the GTX-C line to Dongducheon, renovating the red-light district, and opening the Polytechnic University Dongducheon Education Center.


Furthermore, Mayor Park Hyung-deok presented five operational directions for the city next year: an economic city with diverse opportunities, a city where care is received in daily life, a city where education advances, a citizen-centered urban space, and the expansion and development of the Soyosan tourist area.


Meanwhile, the city’s 2025 budget by major sectors includes: 17 billion KRW for job support for vulnerable groups, 10.4 billion KRW for improving educational environments and operating education development zones, 8.5 billion KRW for building senior and disabled community centers, 6.7 billion KRW for constructing a live broadcast coexistence platform, 4.7 billion KRW for creating a pet theme park, 3.6 billion KRW for developing Sangpae Neighborhood Park, 3.4 billion KRW for creating walking paths linked to Wangbang Valley forest trails and forest welfare complexes, 11.4 billion KRW for expanding urban arterial road networks and access roads, 1.5 billion KRW for compensation related to the closure of odor-causing pig farms, and 1.2 billion KRW for vacant house maintenance support.


Mayor Park said, “To actively respond to demographic changes due to aging and the complex global crisis, next year’s budget focuses on investment in sustainable growth projects. Especially, 2025 will be a year to accelerate key policies and current projects of the 8th elected administration, and we will do our best to create new future growth engines and make the vibrant energy of Dongducheon felt.”


The budget proposal submitted by Dongducheon City will be finalized on December 17 after review at the 334th regular session of the Dongducheon City Council.
