Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 2nd that it held a declaration ceremony on the 29th of last month at the Goyang City Arts Center, pledging to guarantee the basic labor rights of workers in apartment management and to promote mutual cooperation, with the participation of 150 apartment complexes.

At the ceremony, more than 200 stakeholders including Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City, representatives of apartment residents' councils, the Goyang branch of the Korea Housing Managers Association, and workers in apartment management attended and announced a declaration pledging mutual respect and cooperation to create “Happy Apartment Communities.”

The declaration states that the apartment residents' councils will strive to improve the labor environment without employment insecurity for apartment management workers, and the apartment management workers will endeavor to create an environment where residents can live safely and comfortably. It also includes Goyang City's commitment to actively support and cooperate in these efforts.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “Behind the comfortable living environment we take for granted is the sweat and effort of apartment management workers,” and emphasized the significance of the ceremony by stating, “We must strive to ensure that those who work hard from dawn in various places receive dignified treatment and respect in a stable employment environment.”

To spread exemplary cases, the city selected four outstanding model apartment complexes (Sinwon Village Complex 4, Sunshine Village Complex 20, Lake Village Complex 5, Gajwa Village Complex 1) at the ceremony and awarded them the Goyang Mayor’s Commendation. Additionally, the Goyang City Labor Rights Center presented plaques for the outstanding model apartments and delivered winter supplies as a token of appreciation.

The outstanding model apartments were selected as apartment complexes that maintained employment of apartment management workers and improved working conditions despite difficult circumstances such as minimum wage increases, contributing to mutual growth and harmony. The selection was made through a survey of apartment complexes conducted by the Goyang City Labor Rights Center and a selection committee.

A Goyang Special City official stated, “We expect that this declaration ceremony will serve as an opportunity for continuous efforts by the city and apartment complexes to establish a culture of mutual respect and shared understanding in apartment communities.”
