December 19-20: 40 Youth and Young Adults Transform into Santas... Gifts and Events for Vulnerable Groups
Participants Aged 17-30 Accepted Until December 13
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that on December 19-20, just before Christmas, teenagers transformed into Santas will deliver gifts and events to vulnerable groups through the volunteer program ‘Jamsil Santa is Coming’.
Since 2021, the district has hosted a one-day Santa volunteer activity every year at the Jamsil Youth Center with teenagers. This opportunity is provided at the district level so that they can share warmth with neighbors in need through gifts and events prepared by themselves.
Before the event, 40 young adults and teenagers will be recruited by December 13. In particular, reflecting the fact that many young hopefuls could not participate last year due to age restrictions, the recruitment age has been significantly expanded from 17-24 years to up to 30 years this year.
The gathered ‘MZ Santas’ will carry out group activities centered on team leaders over two days. On the first day, December 19, after the Santa School entrance ceremony, they will prepare in advance the gifts they personally wrapped, Christmas cards, and dance practice for the surprise event to be held the next day.
On the 20th, an official send-off ceremony will be held, where they will pledge their determination as one-day Santas to give a wonderful day. Afterwards, they will visit vulnerable groups such as Dream Start children, group homes, and public institutions in the area to perform the events prepared the day before, providing beneficiaries with a special day.
Park OO, who is participating as a Santa leader this year, said, “I have been participating for three years since 2022,” and added, “I participate every year because I can end the year meaningfully by seeing the joyful expressions and happiness of the beneficiaries.”
The 40 young Santas who complete their mission will conclude the volunteer activity by sharing their impressions with each other along with a small concert. Those who wish to participate in the volunteer work can check the details on the Jamsil Youth Center website.
On the 21st, the Macheon Youth Center will operate the program ‘Sparkling Christmas Playground’ for children and teenagers. There will be 11 experience booths where participants can fully enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, from making various Christmas decorations to decorating cards, as well as a photo zone and a winter snack corner. To participate, prior registration is required through the center’s official website.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “I am glad and pleased that Songpa youth communicate with each other and carry out distinctive volunteer activities,” and added, “We will continue to provide various opportunities for young people to understand the value of sharing and to exert a positive influence on the local community.”
