The appointment of the TPO Secretary-General is made through a process involving a call for member cities, a unanimous resolution and recommendation by the Executive Committee on candidate selection, and the decision of the chair city. This appointment was finalized by the chair city after about a month-long call for member cities in September and a unanimous resolution at the Executive Committee meeting on October 24. The term of office is three years starting from the 1st.

New Secretary-General Kang Da-eun is an expert in the tourism MICE field, having worked for over 20 years at the Busan Tourism Convention Bureau and Busan Tourism Organization, successfully hosting numerous international events. She is especially recognized for her outstanding communication skills and administrative capabilities, making her the ideal candidate to help the TPO, which has so far focused on international conferences and organizational management, expand practical tourism business opportunities among member cities.

The Tourism Promotion Organization for Global Cities (TPO) is an international organization established in August 2002, following a proposal by Busan City at the 5th Asia-Pacific City Summit held in 2002, with the goal of developing the tourism industry through networking among global cities.

Currently, 131 city governments from 17 countries including South Korea, China, and Indonesia, as well as 57 private organizations from 9 countries, are members of the organization.

Next year, Busan City plans to host the first-ever 'Global Tourism Summit' with the TPO and develop it into a regular international event. In addition, the city will continue to develop various tourism policies connecting the world.

Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan and Chair of the TPO, said, “We expect that Secretary-General Kang Da-eun, based on her expertise accumulated in the tourism MICE sector, will greatly contribute not only to strengthening the status of TPO as an international organization but also to expanding the network and business opportunities of member cities.” He added, “Our city will actively support the revitalization of TPO. We hope she will work together with us to help Busan leap forward as a 'Global Tourism Hub City.'”
