"If No Visitation, It Is Child Abuse"
An opinion from a divorce specialist lawyer has emerged, stating that it is time to stop criticizing Jung Woo-sung (51) and model Moon Ga-bi (35) over the 'extramarital child scandal' and engage in productive discussions.
Lawyer Yang So-young (Soongin Law Firm) defined the incident on the YouTube channel 'Yangdamso' on the 28th in a video titled "What Father Jung Woo-sung and Mother Moon Ga-bi Should Do From Now On" as "a happy case that deserves praise for Moon Ga-bi's courage to decide to give birth and carry it out, and Jung Woo-sung's willingness to take responsibility for it."
She added, "It is something to reflect on when it appears as if Moon Ga-bi gave birth solely for child support, or worse, when she is criticized for it," pointing out that "viewing this with suspicion of impure motives is itself a prejudice our society holds against unmarried mothers." She advised Moon Ga-bi, saying, "I hope you courageously take legal action against critical comments and insulting posts for the sake of the child. Online posts inevitably get preserved, and the child may come across them later."
Regarding Jung Woo-sung, she emphasized, "It is not enough to just provide child support. As a father, he must do everything he can, and one of the most important things is visitation rights. Not exercising visitation rights is emotional child abuse and should be punishable." She explained that when the non-custodial parent does not visit the child, it sends a signal to the child that they have been 'abandoned,' adding, "Not only failing to provide child support but also not exercising visitation rights is emotional abuse toward the child."
She also expressed hope, saying, "I hope Jung Woo-sung creates a very good example moving forward," and added, "It will inevitably become known that Jung Woo-sung meets his child, and his actions can have a positive influence on other families. I hope he stops hiding and sets a model case."
Jung Woo-sung acknowledged on the 24th that he is the father of the son Moon Ga-bi gave birth to in March. Jung Woo-sung's agency, Artist Company, stated, "The child revealed by Moon Ga-bi on social media is indeed Jung Woo-sung's biological child," and added, "We are discussing the best way to raise the child. (Jung Woo-sung) will take full responsibility for the child until the end." On the afternoon of the 29th, at the '45th Blue Dragon Film Awards' ceremony held at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, Jung Woo-sung appeared on stage with actor Hwang Jung-min to present the Most Audience Award and said, "I sincerely apologize to everyone who has sent me love and expectations for causing concern and disappointment. I will take all criticism upon myself and carry it. As a father, I will fulfill my responsibilities to my son until the end."
