Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, and Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, have been showcasing a 'perfect match' through the presidential election and other events, but opinions are mixed on how long their 'bromance' will last.
Some argue that due to the distinct personalities of the two individuals, their relationship may not endure for long, while others analyze that there is a high possibility they will continue their unexpected 'chemistry.'
According to major foreign media on the 29th (local time), since Musk declared his support for Trump, his position within the Trump camp and administration has greatly expanded. After the election, he was appointed as co-head of the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and it is reported that he has been residing almost permanently at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, receiving treatment akin to family.
However, some remain skeptical about whether the two distinct personalities will continue to show chemistry. Katrina vanden Heuvel, publisher of the American magazine The Nation, recently wrote in a column for the British daily The Guardian, "Analysts and commentators are also skeptical about how long the honeymoon between these two narcissists will last," adding, "Their relationship is very dangerous and fragile, much like the Trump alliance that temporarily united for the election."
Adam Clark Estes, senior tech reporter for the online media Vox, also pointed out in an interview with ABC News, "I don't think the two will remain friends for that long." However, he added, "Even if Musk stays for only about two more months, I believe he will leave a tremendous impression on the Trump administration."
On the other hand, there are views that their chemistry will last a long time. Maggie Haberman, a senior reporter covering the White House for the daily New York Times (NYT), appeared on CNN's 'Anderson Cooper 360' and said, "Since right after the election, there were many complaints about Musk appearing too often at transition team meetings around Trump, even when he wasn’t needed, but their relationship is quite solid," adding, "They have something in common. Musk is also one of the wealthy, like Trump, and Trump is someone who is extremely attracted to wealth and equates wealth with intelligence."
