Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk, States "Han Dong-hoon Expresses Full Support for TK Administrative Integration"

Meeting at Seoul Regional Talent Forum
"Gaining Momentum for Administrative Integration 추진에 탄력받아"

Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, announced that he attended the ‘2024 Regional Talent Revolution Forum’ hosted by Yeongnam Ilbo at the National Assembly Members' Office Building on the 26th, where he explained the necessity of administrative integration and requested cooperation from the National Assembly.

At the forum held under the theme “A Local Era Where It Is Good to Live Anywhere in the Republic of Korea,” Governor Lee said in his greeting, “Until the 1970s, Gyeongbuk was the most populous region, with 40,000 more people than Gyeonggi Province in the past, but now, even combined with Daegu, the population is smaller than when they separated in 1981,” adding, “If the regions continue in this way, it will be very difficult for the Republic of Korea to exceed a potential growth rate of 2%. The country must develop through the provinces.”

Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, stated, “To create a settled society, good jobs are necessary, and integration must be achieved for economies of scale. I am very pleased that Daegu and Gyeongbuk are undertaking the bold experiment of administrative integration,” and reportedly said, “We will provide our best support so that a model to revitalize the region can be found in the case of Daegu-Gyeongbuk integration.”

Han’s remarks align with Governor Lee’s philosophy that “society should change from a nomadic society flocking to the metropolitan area to one where people get jobs and build families where they were born,” and it is expected to give momentum to the future promotion of Daegu-Gyeongbuk administrative integration.

Meanwhile, the forum held that day was attended by the People Power Party leadership, local governments, and academic officials, who engaged in in-depth discussions on various ways to nurture regional talent and open a sustainable local era.
