Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jin-seon) is launching ‘Yangpyeong Whole Wheat Flour’ on online shopping malls.

Yangpyeong Whole Wheat Flour, Full-Scale Sales Begin on Online Shopping Mall 'Yangpyeong Whole Wheat Flour'. Provided by Yangpyeong County

According to the county on the 29th, Yangpyeong Whole Wheat Flour is a product made by milling and processing 30 tons of Yangpyeong wheat produced on 24 hectares as of June by the Jeungan-ri Herbal Village Cooperative, a grain processing company in Cheongun-myeon, into 300g units of Yangpyeong-produced wheat flour. Full-scale sales activities have started on online shopping malls such as Coupang, Naver, Auction, Gmarket, and 11st.

The production of Yangpyeong wheat has been promoted since 2022 as part of Yangpyeong-gun’s wheat industry development and expansion project to ensure the sustainable growth of the domestic wheat industry and stable food supply. In particular, Yangpyeong wheat is domestic wheat grown in an eco-friendly agricultural special zone, distinguishing it from imported wheat and providing consumers with safe food.

According to the county, the variety of Yangpyeong wheat used for the product is Baekgang, a strong flour white-grain variety developed by the Rural Development Administration in 2015. It has a high milling yield, making it suitable for baking, with a protein content of 28%, and 0% cholesterol, trans fat, and saturated fat, and its low gluten content makes it easy to digest.

The Jeungan-ri Herbal Village Cooperative, responsible for producing Yangpyeong wheat, is a representative local agricultural product processing company that not only handles Yangpyeong wheat but also directly purchases, processes, and sells local agricultural products such as rice flour, mixed grains, balloon flower root, peanuts, walnuts, roasted sesame powder, as well as perilla seed oil and safflower seed oil, establishing a foundation for domestic agricultural products to compete with imported ones.

Additionally, it is a village enterprise that has proven itself as a trustworthy food producer by acquiring the K-food mark from the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, a symbolic logo that helps overseas consumers easily identify Korean food products, certification as a 6th industry operator by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and FSSC22000 certification.

‘FSSC22000’ is one of the international food standards approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), recognized by accreditation bodies worldwide, and is the food safety standard most actively adopted by global food companies.

Jeungan-ri Herbal Village won the Korea Best Cooperative Award Excellence Prize in 2022 and achieved the distinction of being selected as a Moduae (Love) Village Enterprise by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety last year.

Jo Geun-su, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “I hope that many new product developments using local agricultural products, especially Yangpyeong wheat, will proceed, providing an opportunity for farmers to establish it as a new income crop.”
