This agreement was reached as both organizations shared the policy goal of transitioning to a sustainable circular economy society through resource saving and reuse promotion.
The main contents of the agreement include sharing information about local festivals, efforts to facilitate the smooth operation of local festivals such as promoting the use of reusable containers at festival sites, and cooperation on administrative and financial support measures to create festivals without disposable products.
Accordingly, Gwangju City plans to secure a budget to support reusable containers at food booths in local festivals hosted by the city. The used reusable containers will be collected by a specialized company, then go through washing, sterilization, and drying processes before being resupplied to the festival venues, allowing citizens to contribute to environmental protection simply by using the food booths at the festivals.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan said, “We will actively strive to establish an eco-friendly festival culture without disposable products in the future.”
Meanwhile, the city is leading efforts to create a public office building without disposable products through a reusable cup circulation project, encouraging the use of reusable cups when visitors come, during various meetings, and when using beverages at cafes inside the government building. The city plans to continue actively promoting the culture of using reusable containers so that it becomes a part of citizens’ daily lives.
