Ulsan Ulju-gun CCTV Integrated Control Center Installs 165 New Cameras at 136 Key Locations
On the 29th, Ulsan's Ulju-gun announced that it will be the first in the nation to establish a smart road surveillance system utilizing 'on-device AI (artificial intelligence models embedded directly in the device).'
The Ulju-gun CCTV Integrated Control Center plans to install and operate 165 new road surveillance cameras equipped with on-device AI at 136 key locations throughout the region by mid-next month.
This new surveillance system was introduced to replace the aging existing road surveillance cameras, enabling stable monitoring and preventing crimes and accidents by implementing the latest system.
Previously, the road surveillance cameras operated by Ulju-gun had a narrow field of view due to the need for accurate vehicle license plate recognition. As a result, when installed in alleys or side streets densely populated with houses or shops, they could not cover wide areas in a single frame, leading to lower monitoring effectiveness compared to general surveillance cameras.
The newly introduced smart road surveillance cameras feature vehicle license plate recognition using AI models embedded directly in the device and offer a wide field of view. They can capture high-definition video at 8 million pixels. They support front, rear, and multi-lane license plate recognition, allowing convenient searching and tracking of vehicle passage history. Especially, by utilizing on-device AI, the cameras can analyze video independently without separate analysis equipment, minimizing delay time.
Additionally, the wide field of view expands the monitoring range to include sidewalks around the road, enabling more efficient monitoring. The system is highly versatile, allowing installation in various locations and optimization of analysis functions tailored to each site.
Once the smart road surveillance system using the new cameras is established, it will be possible to quickly track fleeing and missing vehicles, monitor the movements of missing persons such as dementia patients, and oversee crime scenes, greatly contributing to crime and accident prevention within the region.
County Governor Lee Soon-geol stated, “Ulju-gun will take the lead in creating a pioneering safety culture by establishing the nation’s first smart surveillance system using the latest on-device AI technology. We will continue to strive to build a high-quality safe city where Ulju-gun residents can live with peace of mind.”
Ulju-gun is fully committed to creating a safe living environment for its residents by securing high-resolution intelligent cameras and expanding and advancing intelligent control systems for efficient monitoring.
