Government to Pay Difference if Agricultural and Fishery Products Fall Below Standard Price

Mungumju, Amendments and Resolutions Including the 'Nongan Act' Passed by the National Assembly
"We Will Continue Legislative Activities to Save Agriculture, Rural Areas, and Farmers"

Government to Pay Difference if Agricultural and Fishery Products Fall Below Standard Price Assemblyman Moon Geum-ju.

Moon Geum-ju, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea representing Jeonnam Goheung·Boseong·Jangheung·Gangjin, announced on the 29th that two bills and one resolution she sponsored have passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 28th since the start of the 22nd National Assembly term. This is evaluated as a legislative achievement that revitalizes agriculture, rural areas, and farmers within six months of the term's start.

First, the "Act on Distribution and Price Stabilization of Agricultural and Fishery Products" passed the plenary session with an alternative that establishes the "Agricultural and Fishery Products Supply and Demand Adjustment Committee" to deliberate and decide on price stabilization measures for agricultural and fishery products, and provides producers with a certain percentage of the difference when agricultural product prices fall below the standard price to protect producers.

Additionally, the "Agricultural and Fishery Disaster Countermeasures Act" added damage caused by abnormal high temperatures to the scope of agricultural disasters, laying the foundation for compensating farmers and fishermen for such damage. The current law defines drought, flood, heavy rain, abnormal low temperature, heavy snow, cold wave, and heat wave as agricultural disasters, but damage caused by abnormal high temperatures is not legally specified, leaving farmers and fishermen to bear the damage themselves.

Along with this, the "Resolution Urging Government Measures for Rice Price Normalization" includes demands for the government to establish clear rice price targets, implement preemptive supply and demand adjustments, post-disaster damage countermeasures, and improve the system for stable supply of agricultural products to stabilize rice prices and supply and demand.

Rep. Moon emphasized, "It was possible for the bills I sponsored to pass before the end of this year thanks to the support and encouragement of local residents," adding, "I will continue to discover more bills to support people's livelihoods and persistently carry out legislative activities."
