Due to concerns about the tariff policies of the second Trump administration, the domestic stock market on the 29th is expected to continue showing differentiated performance across sectors.
On the 28th (local time), the New York Stock Exchange was closed for Thanksgiving Day. On the day after Thanksgiving, the 29th, the market will close early. Previously, on the 27th, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.31%, the S&P 500 by 0.38%, and the Nasdaq by 0.6%, respectively.
The day before, the KOSPI barely held the 2500 level and closed despite the Bank of Korea's decision to cut the base interest rate at the Monetary Policy Committee meeting. The KOSPI closed at 2504.67, up 1.61 points (0.06%) from the previous day. Foreign investors continued to sell. On that day, foreign investors had a net selling position of 492.4 billion KRW in the KOSPI market.
Hwang Junho, a researcher at Sangsangin Securities, analyzed, "Despite the highlighted uncertainties related to semiconductor law subsidies under the next Trump administration, the Bank of Korea unexpectedly cut the base interest rate at the November Monetary Policy Committee meeting, leading to a rise centered on the bio theme. As a result, the Korean stock market closed slightly higher."
On the 29th, the domestic stock market is expected to react sensitively to policies of the second Trump administration and show different movements across sectors. Kim Ji-won, a researcher at KB Securities, said, "Additional sanctions related to Chinese semiconductors are expected on the 2nd (local time). Although the level will be eased, high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and others are expected to be included, which will burden related stocks. Some concerns may have been partially reflected the day before, but whether this will lead to a rebound on this day is key."
She added, "Concerns about the second Trump administration persist, and sector differentiation free from tariffs will continue. It is necessary to respond focusing on sectors where supply and demand improvement trends are confirmed."
