This meeting was arranged following the Latvia side's proposal during the Korea-Latvia summit visit to share Korea's disaster response system and discuss mutual cooperation plans. At the meeting, Minister Lee explained Korea's integrated disaster situation management system, the operation of the Disaster Safety Situation Room, and the public disaster text message service, and President Rink?vi?s showed great interest in the disaster text message service.
In particular, President Rink?vi?s stated that Latvia currently uses warning sirens to guide crisis situations, but there are limitations during severe weather conditions such as storms, and that they plan to introduce a disaster text message broadcasting service. He mentioned that Korea's prompt disaster text message service will be referenced in future related policies. The Latvian Ministry of the Interior has been promoting the establishment of a disaster text message broadcasting service system for the past two years.
Additionally, the Latvian delegation visited the Central Disaster Safety Situation Room Seoul Situation Center and had time to listen to explanations about the operation of the situation room. Minister Lee said, "I hope that this meeting will serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Korea and Latvia not only in the field of disaster safety but also in various other fields."
