Evaluation of 25 Autonomous Districts in Seoul... Yeongdeungpo-gu Honored as the Only Dual Award Winner
Special Project 'Hygiene Safety Companion Project' Receives 'Special Award' for Distinctiveness and Excellence
Secures Total Incentives of 50 Million KRW with Both 'Grand Prize' and 'Special Award'... Recognition of Policy Achievements
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it achieved a remarkable accomplishment by being the only autonomous district to simultaneously receive the ‘Excellence Award’ and the ‘Special Award’ in the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s ‘2024 Comprehensive Evaluation in the Food Hygiene Sector.’
This achievement is the result of the district leading qualitative improvements in food hygiene services through differentiated hygiene management policies and thorough field-centered administration.
The ‘Comprehensive Evaluation in the Food Hygiene Sector’ is conducted annually targeting all 25 autonomous districts in Seoul, assessing the overall level of food hygiene to select outstanding districts.
This evaluation was based on 21 detailed items across seven major areas: ▲food safety management infrastructure ▲guidance and inspection of food-related businesses ▲sampling inspection and complaint handling ▲dietary improvement, among others. The district received consistently high scores in all seven areas, earning the ‘Excellence Award.’
Additionally, the special project ‘Hygiene Safety Accompaniment Project’ was recognized for its excellence as a differentiated hygiene management initiative unique to Yeongdeungpo-gu, following a meticulous analysis of local conditions.
Through this project, the district demonstrated outstanding results by receiving the ‘Special Award,’ which is granted to only two autonomous districts.
Moreover, the district provided guidance on the latest food policies (hygiene rating system, amendments to the Narcotics Control Act, origin labeling, food poisoning prevention, etc.) to over 7,700 long-uninspected food establishments within the area, systematically resolving blind spots in management through field-centered administration, which garnered positive evaluations.
In this evaluation, the district proved overall improvement in food hygiene levels by winning both the Excellence Award and the Special Award, securing a total incentive of 50 million KRW, reaffirming the effectiveness of its policies.
Based on this, the district plans to accelerate preparations for more advanced hygiene management policies and project implementation next year.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “This award is a valuable result of food hygiene policies that prioritize the health and safety of our residents. We will continue to create a food environment where residents can feel safe through systematic and proactive hygiene management. Additionally, we will do our best to discover projects that reduce the burden on business owners and provide practical support.”
