Support for Vision Correction Costs up to 100,000 KRW Including Eye Exams and Custom Glasses for 35 Dream Start Case Management Children... Seongdong-gu Continues 4th Year of Support Since 2021 Agreement with Seoul Opticians Association Seongdong Branch, with 4 Eyewear Companies Participating by Region
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Won-oh) continues to promote the ‘Dream Eye Nunnmatchum’ eyeglass support project, which provides vision correction cost assistance to children under Dream Start case management.
Although it is recommended that growing children have their vision checked at least once every six months, children from vulnerable groups sometimes miss the correction period due to the financial burden of vision correction costs.
Accordingly, the district signed a business agreement in October 2021 with the Seoul Opticians Association Seongdong-gu Branch of the Korean Opticians Association (Chairman Chae In) and has been annually implementing the ‘Dream Eye Nunnmatchum’ eyeglass support project, which covers vision test fees and eyeglass fitting costs.
For the convenience of children, a total of four companies (Schneider Optics Lens Eye, Look Store, Sinyongdang Optical, Modern Optical Contact Lenses) are divided by region to support children from vulnerable groups.
First, 35 Dream Start children requiring vision correction were selected in October, and the target children individually visited designated optical stores from October 21 to November 20 to receive vision tests, eye health education, and eyeglass fitting cost support.
Support was provided up to a maximum of 100,000 KRW per child (60,000 KRW from Seongdong-gu Dream Start, 40,000 KRW from optical stores), but even if the cost exceeded 100,000 KRW, the optical stores covered the additional expenses without separate charges, reducing the burden on the children.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We are promoting the ‘Dream Eye Nunnmatchum’ project so that vulnerable children in their growth period can achieve improved learning ability and balanced developmental growth through proper vision care,” adding, “We are grateful for the continuous support from the Seoul Opticians Association Seongdong-gu Branch and optical stores, and we will continue to make every effort for the healthy and happy lives of all children.”
