An advanced semiconductor performance evaluation facility linked to the first domestic global chip manufacturing company, worth 1 trillion KRW, will be established in the advanced semiconductor cluster in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do.
Gyeonggi-do announced on the 28th that the "Advanced Semiconductor Mass Production-Linked Mini Fab (Performance Evaluation Facility) Infrastructure Project" has passed the final preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Science and ICT's National R&D Project Evaluation Committee.
This project involves creating spaces for material, parts, and equipment companies to move in, as well as demonstration spaces for each semiconductor process, and establishing about 40 semiconductor process and measurement devices based on 12-inch wafers (circuit boards).
Gyeonggi-do, together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Yongin City, and SK Hynix, will build a facility with a total floor area of 3,300㎡ in the advanced semiconductor cluster in Wonsam-myeon, Yongin City.
The mass production-linked mini fab will serve as a full-cycle mass production-linked demonstration facility for semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment, performing functions such as ▲evaluation and verification of developed semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment ▲consulting by process experts ▲support for R&D of materials, parts, and equipment linked to demand companies ▲and support for on-site semiconductor talent development.
This project is expected to be an opportunity to further enhance the global technological competitiveness of the advanced semiconductor industry, secure supply chain stability, and play an important role in strengthening the semiconductor industry ecosystem.
Gyeonggi-do plans to continuously support performance evaluation and mass production-linked testing required by the industry by providing development space and evaluation analysis facilities centered on the "Gyeonggi-do Semiconductor Technology Center" within the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute, which opened in July.
Lee Seong-ho, Director of the Future Growth Industry Bureau of Gyeonggi-do, emphasized, "The advanced semiconductor mini fab is a core infrastructure that will lead the future semiconductor industry of Gyeonggi-do and the nation," adding, "We will do our best to ensure the project is implemented on schedule through close cooperation with the government, local governments, and companies."
