City Employees Work Hard to Alleviate Commuter Inconvenience and Prevent Safety Accidents

The city of Guri, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 28th that in response to the approximately 24 cm of heavy snowfall that began on the evening of the 26th, it mobilized a total of 17 snow removal vehicles, 2 heavy equipment units, and about 700 public officials over two days to carry out snow removal operations on major roads, slopes, and side streets, minimizing inconvenience for citizens during their commute.

With concerns about a commuting chaos due to the record-breaking first snowfall, Guri City issued an emergency duty order starting at 9 p.m. on the 26th, before the snowfall began, deploying key snow removal departments such as the Safety General Division and the Road Division, as well as local administrative welfare centers, to begin snow removal operations.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun expanded emergency duty fully as the increasing snow from early morning was expected to cause inconvenience to citizens using major roads, side streets, and sidewalks during their commutes. City officials were dispatched to each district site to ensure citizen safety not only on the roads but also on the sidewalks.

In particular, over two days, about 700 city officials, following the emergency duty order, were dispatched from early morning to key citizen routes such as bus stops and crosswalks to conduct snow removal operations, working hard to alleviate traffic inconvenience for Guri citizens and prevent safety accidents such as falls on icy roads.

Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun stated, “Although the unprecedented heavy snowfall in November in 117 years raised concerns about safety accidents and citizen inconvenience, the dedicated snow removal efforts of all staff allowed us to get through safely. Even amid the excitement of the first snow like this time, disasters can approach, but we will do our best to minimize citizen inconvenience and maintain a safe road environment through proactive snow removal operations.”
