Spraying Spray Pas on Desk and Kicking Chair with Foot
Verbal Abuse and Profanity Toward Teacher Who Tried to Stop
An incident occurred where a parent entered an elementary school classroom during class, caused a disturbance, and hurled abusive language and insults at a teacher who tried to stop them. The school is reportedly preparing to file criminal and civil charges.
According to the Sejong City Office of Education and the Sejong branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union on the 28th, Mr. A, who has an elementary school child, barged into a classroom during class on the 22nd, claiming his child was a victim of school violence. He threatened by spraying spray pain relief on the desk of a student suspected of being the perpetrator of school violence, shouted curses and loud voices, and kicked classroom chairs, causing a disturbance for some time.
He also continued to cause a disturbance outside the classroom by shouting, and reportedly directed abusive language and insults at the teacher who tried to stop him. The Office of Education and the teachers' union explained that a considerable number of students witnessed Mr. A’s disruptive behavior. Mr. A is said to have acted out of anger, insisting his child was a victim of school violence. The school reported the parent to the Teacher’s Rights Protection Committee and is preparing to file criminal and civil charges.
The teachers' union urged the Office of Education to take active measures. The Sejong branch of the union stated, "The Office of Education should provide active legal support to the school and take legal action against the parent to protect teachers' rights," and demanded "a warning against malicious complainants."
Meanwhile, this is not the first case of a parent intruding into a classroom during class. In November last year, Mr. B, a parent who caused a disturbance in an elementary school classroom in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, sparked controversy. At that time, Mr. B entered a third-grade classroom, threatened a student as if to hit them, and verbally abused the homeroom teacher who tried to intervene with remarks such as, "If you had done your job well, this wouldn't have happened," and "You should have properly educated them."
Mr. B reportedly caused a disturbance after learning that his child had a quarrel with another student and came to the school. Subsequently, the homeroom teacher who was verbally abused reported the violation of teacher’s rights to the education authorities.
